Lawyering, meet Nerdiness
Under the Hood
Warning: this page might get a little nerdy. If you don’t know what PNG stands for or how to pronounce “!“, then you might want to head back to higher ground. You’re not missing much–just a few notes for the curious about the hodgepodge of technology that runs this site and my life.
This site is run using the free, open source WordPress blogging engine (version 2.9 as of this writing) and a free theme called Mystique. My editing tools of choice include Photoshop, Notepad++, Windows Live Writer, and a yellow legal pad with a good sharp Ticonderoga #2.
I can also edit the blog on the road using my iPod Touch (if there’s WiFi around) or my Windows Mobile cell phone (although Android’s not too far on the horizon).
The site is hosted on my GoDaddy Linux/PHP hosting account. They seem to do a pretty decent job keeping my ramblings online.
I’m relatively OS-agnostic, which I suppose is an old Mac nerd’s way of saying that I have at least 7 machines running some flavor of Windows in the house but feel too cool to be the John Hodgman character in the ads. In the past, I’ve owned Macs (I still have one of the original iBooks, the ones with the molded plastic handle that looked like a Barbie accessory) and servers running FreeBSD and various Linuces (Ubuntu, Mandriva … whatever the flavor of the month happens to be). And I suppose my iPod counts as a FreeBSD machine (if I can SSH into it and play around with bash, it counts, even if it did come equipped with fancy headphones and has no removable parts).
